Prior to completing, electronically signing, and submitting the housing application, it is strongly encouraged that students read the Housing and Dining License. If you have questions about this license, please contact Residential Life at reslife@sunypoly.edu.
If you are a returning student and are not registered for the fall semester, the Housing Application may not appear in your Housing and Dining Portal. Please call the Residential Life Office at 315-792-7810 or email reslife@sunypoly.edu and request that it be activated. Returning students will be assigned rooms based on their housing deposit date.
New First-Year Student, New Transfer Student and New Graduate Student Housing and Dining Applications are available in May. For information on how to submit your housing and dining license, consult the New Student Enrollment Guide that was emailed to you from the Admissions Office. Follow the steps in the guide or the steps below to submit a housing application.
To submit a housing application, log into Banner self service and follow these instructions:
- Select Enter Secure Area
- Enter your SITNET ID and Password. If you do not remember the password, contact the ITS Help Desk at 315-792-7440.
- Select Student and Financial Aid
- Select Housing and Dining
- Select Forms to Submit Online. From the portal select the Applications tab to locate the correct application.
- Fill out the application and click Submit. A confirmation will be sent to the student’s SUNY Poly email address verifying that the application was submitted.

Roommates
Because we believe that learning to live with others is an important part of the residential experience, all first-year students are assigned a roommate. We also believe that students will gain more from their residence hall experience if they live with students who share similar living habits but who have different backgrounds and perspectives. First-year students are matched based on their responses on their housing application.
Your roommate may be the first friend that you make at SUNY Poly. One of the best aspects of residence hall living is having a roommate. Roommates come in all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds, and they may have interests and personalities that are very different from yours. We believe that this relationship is one of the strengths of the SUNY Poly community. As the semester progresses, you and your roommate will learn to respect each other’s needs, rights and belongings, and will, hopefully, develop a lasting friendship.
However, you and your roommate may not become the best of friends. Roommates often find that they can live comfortably together despite not spending free-time together. Keep in mind that having a successful relationship with your roommate requires clear, considerate and continuous communication with each other. If you and your roommate take the time to discuss issues and work together to try to resolve problems, that’s the first step. Sometimes additional assistance is needed in which you should request guidance from your Resident Advisor (RA) or Assistant Director (AD). Your RA and AD are trained to assist you and your roommate(s) with problem resolution. If a resolution cannot be reached, the decision will be made by the AD as to the next steps and any potential relocation.
Request to Commute from Home
Students may live and commute from their permanent home address if they are within a 30- mile commuting distance to campus. To commute from home, students must submit the Residency Requirement Exemption application located in the housing portal in banner.sunypoly.edu. Students must also submit a signed Commuter Request Form (pdf) per the instructions on the form. Students who have electronically signed and submitted a housing license and then decide that they would like to commute does not justify a release from housing. Refer to the Housing and Dining License and the section entitled Withdrawal and Request to be Released from Housing. See also Exemptions from the Housing License in the Student Handbook.
If a student decides to withdraw from classes, the student must terminate their housing and dining license by notifying the Office of Residential Life and Housing at the earliest possible date. Failure to terminate the license may result in additional charges for room rental, moving, storage, and dining services.
Transferring/Withdrawal/Leave of Absence
If a student intends to transfer, withdraw, or request a leave of absence, they must submit either the Withdrawal Form (for current registered students) or the Exit Survey (for students who are not returning to SUNY Polytechnic).

On-Campus Meal Plans
All residential students are required to purchase one of the residential meal plans. The Housing and Dining License is in effect for the entire academic year when classes are in session. All new incoming first-year students are required to be on the unlimited meal plan for the duration of their first year on campus. Auxiliary Services administers the SUNY Polytechnic ID cards and meal plans. Changes to a student’s selected meal plan are accepted until 4:00 p.m. the first Friday of classes each semester. After this date, changes to meal plans are not accepted.
