Over the last few years, several SUNY campuses participated in the Daylight Hour global initiative, where for one hour, offices turned off lights in day-lit spaces to raise awareness about the role daylight can play in lighting offices and reducing the campus environmental footprint. In 2018, offices in more than 20 countries turned off lights in 130 million square feet of space, offsetting greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 437,000 miles driven in a passenger vehicle!

Daylight Hour takes place on Friday, June 21, on the summer solstice, when offices across the world showcase their environmental commitment by turning off nonessential lights in day-lit spaces from noon to 1pm local time and posting photos and other content to social media using the hashtag #DaylightHour.

SUNY Polytechnic will make every effort to support the Statewide Daylight Hour initiative by turning off all non-essential lighting from Noon - 1 pm Friday afternoon campus wide. Please do so safely & conscientiously.

Thank you for supporting campus sustainability and global energy consciousness.
