Dr. Donald W. Hanson retired in 2009 as Director of the Information Directorate at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, NY. In this position he oversaw the Air Force’s center for the development of information systems, managed an annual science and technology program of more than $700 million, and directed the activities of approximately 1,425 military, civilian, and contract employees. During a 41-year Air Force career, Don held a variety of assignments with progressive responsibility in both technical and leadership positions. Prior to assuming leadership positions, his principal technical work was in the fields of adaptive optics, radar, and photonics. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Executive Presidential Rank Award.
Don is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Don was appointed chair of the College Council in 2010. He also serves on the NYSTEC Board of Directors; the Central New York Defense Alliance Board of Directors; and the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors.
He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University.
