2019 Community Outreach Report

Manufacturing Day
SUNY Poly partnered with Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) October 18 for a Manufacturing Day, which showcased a cadre of more than 50 high-tech businesses and manufacturers at MVCC’s Utica campus, and placed special emphasis on STEM pathways. The successful event brought in hundreds of middle, high school, and college students, with an overall attendance of nearly 1,000 people.

CREEreer Fair
SUNY Poly hosted a career and internship fair Monday, November 18, for students interested in recruitment opportunities with the silicon carbide manufacturing company building a $1 billion wafer fabrication facility at the nearby Marcy NanoCenter. Over 100 students attended the career fair which included a presentation and meet-and-greet with Cree Inc. CEO Gregg Lowe.

2019 Career and Graduate School Fair
In order to help students bridge the gap between their academic careers and becoming an employee (or grad student), the Career Services Center at SUNY Poly gathered more than 100 employers and graduate schools in March and October to explore the opportunities that can await them after graduation.

SUNY Poly presents Mohawk Valley Mini Maker Faire
Held at SUNY Poly’s Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing (CGAM) in Utica Saturday, April 20, the Mohawk Valley Mini Maker Faire celebrated the creativity, ingenuity, and diversity of makers throughout the Mohawk Valley Region. The 2019 event was a community-based collaboration between SUNY Poly and a growing range of individual makers and participating institutions that included Sculpture Space, thINCubator, Munson Williams Proctor Arts institute and The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.
